Franklin Shemar Moore, seu nome de batismo, nasceu em 1970, tem exatos 40 anos de pura "saúde". O gato é ator e ex-modelo. Ficou conhecido pelo seu personagem Malcolm Winters na novela"The Young and The Restless", entre 1994/2002, pelo qual ganhou um Daytime Emmy.
Moore nasceu em Oakland, Califórnia, e tem três meio-irmãos, Kosheno Moore, Sheburra Moore e Shenon Moore. O pai de Moore é afro-americano e sua mãe é holandesa. Shemar passou a maior parte de sua infância em Drumfries, na Irlanda. Sua mãe, que é licenciada em matemática, trabalhou como professora no Bahrein e na Dinamarca. Voltou a morar na Califórnia na década 70.

Shemar Moore formou-se na Gunn High School em Palo Alto, Califórnia e frequentou a Santa Clara University, no mesmo estado, graduando-se em Comunicação. Nessa mesma época, começou a modelar para poder pagar suas contas.

Durante oito anos Shemar participou de "The Young and The Restless", que deixou em 2002. Mas em 2004 resolveu retornar. Até que, em 2005 desligou-se definitivamente da série e disse à época:
"Meu tempo acabou em Y & R. Foram oito anos como Malcolm."

O ator, que completa 40 anos em abril de 2010, já havia mostrado seus “talentos” no seriado "Birds of Prey" (ou Mulher Gato, para quem assistiu no SBT) na pele do detetive Reese Jesse, entre 2002/2003 e na novela "The Young and the Restless", pela qual ganhou um prêmio Daytime Emmy. Ele também participou de um reality show chamado Weakest Link – estranhamente descrito como um misto de inquisição e Survivor – mas até sua estréia em Criminal Minds era mais conhecido pelas namoradas bonitas e famosas que teve – Halle Berry, Beyoncé e Toni Braxton estão entre as gatas que o gato pegou.
Com certeza o gatíssimo Shemar Moore, que interpreta o esquentado e bondoso detetive do FBI Derek Morgan, é um ótimo motivo para acompanhar Criminal Minds, mesmo que você não seja fã de seriados policiais.
